Too Many Balls in the Air!
I am sure at some point you have heard the term, “I’ve got way too many balls in the air.” In fact, you most likely uttered these words yourself. Implied in this kind of statement is the fear that you might drop one of the balls; the fear that if you pause to catch you breath all the balls will hit the ground and things in your life will get crazy. Too many balls in the air can translate into a weekly schedule like this:
Go to a full time job
Soccer practice with the kids Tuesday and Thursday evening
Volunteering on Monday Morning
Company coming in from out of town this weekend
Water the garden
Pay the bills
Wash the clothes
Make the meals
Clean the house
Sometimes even mundane life can feel all over the map and focus is difficult. Perhaps the problem is that on your big, long priorities list your name doesn’t show up anywhere. When you are juggling you can experience stress, resentment, fatigue, a lack of enthusiasm, a loss of control or overwhelming discomfort.
So What Can You Do To Make A Positive Transition?
You can continue to toss balls at a break neck speed and simply hope to keep up if that is what you want. However, consider trying out a new skill! Any busy woman can master the art of Juggling with Grace. This new skill requires a shift in your thinking, a bit of creative brainstorming, and a dose of support to ensure lasting change.
Start Juggling With Grace Through Practical Personal Empowerment
Here are the down to earth basics: In order to shift from way too many balls in the air to Juggling with Grace you have to make a plan, which has to be obtainable and you need to elicit support. Change in behavior takes time. If your familiar habit is to live in the high gear, fast lane then you will have to down shift, change lanes and get used to a more comfortable speed that supports new and improved behavior.
Beginners Steps in the Process of Change Management
Step One: Create a climate for positive change. Take exceptional care of yourself in order to have the time, energy or interest to care effectively for others. This will allow you to craft a more balanced life. Take personal time, nurture your body with healthy foods and exercise, practice open and honest communication, and simplify your life.
Step Two: Get really clear about where you spend your time and in turn, what areas of life are out of balance. I often use a simple assessment called the Circle of Life to paint this picture. Take a piece of paper and draw a big circle in the middle. Divide the circle into 8 equal parts. One the outside of each circle and label the tip of each dividing line as follows: Finances, Health and Well Being, Relationships, Career/Work, Personal Growth, Creativity, Recreation. Now, ask yourself, on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being completely dissatisfied and 10 being completely satisfied) how you would rate each part of your life? The center of the circle represents zero and the outer edge a whopping 10. Make a mark on each line to reflect your conclusions. Then connect the dots and you will find your circle is misshapen. This is a simple, yet powerful way to spotlight what needs your attention to achieve greater balance.
Step Three: Take one small step at a time to regain balance. Finances out of whack? Schedule a day to organize your files and records. Health and wellness less than idea1? Begin drinking 8 ounces of water a day. Get the idea? Start small and before you know it you will wake up to a life you have created rather than a life that has created youblack light body painting ...
Car modifications are becoming a way of life on the daily roads. To a car enthusiast, these little car modifications are what keeps them awake for all those sleepless nights. With all the creative minds in the car industry, modifications just keep being created. Lower body kits, bigger diameter exhaust, carbon fiber door handles, smoked tail lights, and the list goes on. Society cannot get enough, and demands the sleek look of nice cars.
Smoking items on vehicles is becoming very popular. Smoking means to darken the tint color of an item along with light visibility levels at times. That may seem confusing to understand, but it can be closely related to the idea of window tinting.
The darker the tint color, the less visibility seen through to the things on the other side of the smoked or tinted item. Example being, 5% window tint is very dark colored and only 5% of light visibility shows through. Meaning 95% of everything else cannot be seen. Granted, smoking is a little different but can be closely compared to this tint comparison.
It seems the most popular items being smoked these days in the car industry are tail lights, head lights, accessories such as bug shields, window shields, visors, and etc. Tail lights hold a majority of interest in for smoking right now, but the idea will most likely move towards all items.
There are numerous ways to get items smoked. The first method would be to pay a professional automobile painter to mix clear coat and black paint at a certain mixture rate. Thus giving you a mix of black and clear paint, making the blackness somewhat see through to a certain level. This on average is going to cost around a couple hundred dollars. Due to the fact of lots of shop hours involved, it is most likely expensive.
The second method is to try to create such a light coat of black paint that it lets a light amount through the paint. This isn't the best route in my mind, due to the fact of how bad black paint lets light through. The risk of messing this up is very high as well. Controlling the amount of coats while still spraying an even coat does not come natural to everyone either.
The third way being the cheapest and easiest is to use a hand held can of translucent spray tint and do it yourself. The can of this stuff is going to cost you an outrageous price of around fifteen dollars. With this, usual spray painting methods apply for smoking items as well. There are more materials involved in this process but the main idea revolves around the translucent tint spray to give it the smoke colorBody painting helps anatomy lessons
Hello Divine One Who Laughs A Lot,
What happens when we laugh? What do we get to experience in our bodies? How do we feel?
I know what laughter does for me. I feel absolutely incredible and energized when I laugh. I want you to feel energized too so keep reading as I share my true story to make you laugh!
First, according to French neurologist, Henri Rubenstein, "One minute of laughter can give the body up to 45 minutes of therapeutic relaxation." Just imagine what ten minutes can do?
Have you ever heard the story of Norman Cousins, the late editor of The Saturday Review, who was taken ill with a severe connective tissue disease? When doctors gave up on him, he cured himself with large doses of Vitamin C and comedies. He found that ten minutes of belly laughter had an anesthetic effect, and he recorded his experiences in self-healing through laughter in a best-selling book, Anatomy of an Illness.
What do you think laughter can do in terms of weight loss?
When you laugh you can burn calories according to experts at Vanderbilt University, and the more you laugh, the more you burn. Those little endorphins know exactly what they're doing. They're saying, "Come here little fat cells, come to momma." They're unstoppable, like The Terminator, eliminating those fat cells with a vengeance.
Want more endorphins? Start laughing! Laughter = weight loss!
Here's a few endorphins for you....something to tickle your funny bone, and it's a true story.
As you know I have been dating, and it's been a delightful experience. Recently, my partner and I had been e-mailing back and forth and, feeling a little spontaneous, made the decision to meet...right away. I had not seen him for two weeks so was very excited at the anticipation of our rendezvous. I was rushing to get out of the house as I had approximately a 45 minute drive to our destination point. Thus, I left the house in a hurry. As I was driving, I was quickly doing a check:
Shaved legs - Yup!
Lotion on my legs - Yup!
Brushed teeth - Yup!
Painted toenails - Yup!
HOT outfit - Yup! Yup!
Okay, I'm ready!! I cranked up the CD and continued to drive feeling pretty good. Then realized I had forgotten one check point. I took a quick whiff of the underarms. Oh, my gosh! It had been a hot day and I forgot to do the underarm check. Yikes! Odor alert....I was definitely stinky!
I rummaged through my purse checking for lotion or anything I could rub on my underarms....nothing! I started to panic a little as I wanted to be the epitome of a HOTTIE, and a HOTTIE cannot have underarm odor. I mean it's one of the laws in the HOTTIE creed.
Surely, there must be something down in the depths of my purse......something, anything. My creative juices began to flow when I spotted the tin container. I've never tried using these as an underarm deodorant. Is it possible? Well, I'm a person who likes to think outside the box and this was definitely thinking outside the box...or inside the tin so to speak.
I quickly took one out of the tin, put it on my tongue to wet it and then rubbed it on my underarms. Then I smelled my underarms. I could still smell a hint of BO with a little twist of cinnamon, so I licked and rubbed again. Okay, still a slight odor. This called for more licking and rubbing. There I was on Highway 16 heading to Tacoma, Washington licking and rubbing for most of the 45 minute drive. Did it do the trick?
Yes, Altoids had saved the day...and my partner never even knew. He just thought the cinnamon smell was coming from my mouth as I had popped an Altoid right before we met. Altoids, they're not just for fresh breath!
You lost some pounds with that one, didn't you? Laughter! It has to be the best medicineBody Painted Office Wear
Why is it that when we go and have a walk in a green park with plenty of blue skies and green trees that our mood gets instantly lifted if we are feeling a little tense and stressed? And why is it that nurses wear white as their uniform generally or that some hospital waiting rooms or television waiting rooms where guests of a show wait, are painted green? We may not realize it but color does affect our daily lives weather we like it or not. They act as an invisible force that can influence things to happen. We spend a great deal of our waking hours at work, so it makes sense that the office colors do affect our productivity in a positive way or a negative way. There are things we can do to change our working environment for the better by understanding a few things about how various colors can influence us.
First, there are the four primary colors, red, green, yellow and blue. In a later article, I'll talk about some of the other colors that can affect us especially in an office environment.
Red
Red is the most emotionally charged color of all. It's a very authoritative color. Have you ever noticed why a lot of politicians wear red ties? Red signals dominance and if a person is wearing a red tie especially matched with a black suit, it makes the wearer appear more assertive and dominant. There is a reason why politicians and people who appear in public a lot wear what they wear. If you have to speak infront of others about a subject you are supposed to be an authority on, wear a red tie or for the ladies, perhaps a red business suit as they're considered to be 'power suits'.
Green
Green is a calming color so it's totally opposite to red in its affect on you. It's the most easy color on the eye and the most soothing hence at the moment, it's the most popular decorating color. That's why people sit in a 'green room' in TV studios. Hospitals use green often as a soothing color for patience and people in waiting rooms. Apparently, brides in the middle ages wore green as their wedding dress as green also symbolizes fertility. Research also shows that something simple as having a green screen saver or background on your computer in the office can calm you and reassure you. Using green around the office can give you a balanced and calm view on thingsThis is amazing face painting
Learning the art of face painting and keeping it safe for the kids isn't hard if you follow simple guidelines. Whether you explore this art at your children's birthday party, in a school related activity or in a kiosk at a local fair, you must always have the kid's safety in mind. Face painting is fun, easy and children of all ages love it. Here are some tips to safely transform faces into amazing artwork.
Cleanliness Germs and infections can be transmitted from one child to the other if you neglect any of these:
Always make sure to wash your hands between sessions.
Wear gloves and change them with every child.
Make sure your brushes and all material you use are disinfected, again, between every child.
Make sure your work station is kept free of anything that could contaminate your material.
Using The right Materials Never use paint that is not made for face painting. Always choose brands that are non-toxic and suitable for human skin. Rashes and allergic reactions could emerge if you don't use the right paints. Use quality glitter, sparkles or any other enhancement materials, because those too can cause irritations.
Be Organized Always have all the tools and materials you'll need at hand before starting any face painting design. This will not only prevent you from contaminating your gloves, or your hands if you don't use gloves, but will also ensure that the child you are attending too is not left to himself and risk getting hurt, by falling off the stool or by playing with some of your material or tools while you look for something.
Keep The Child Still And Under Surveillance At All Times Avoid having "distractions" that children will want to look at. If you have your designs on small posters, make sure the child being face painted doesn't see them when your working. A good way of keeping them still is by having a mirror so they can watch you do your thing. Sure, it's going to be less of a surprise when your done but they will appreciate seeing their faces evolve. And always have an eye on them. Never let yourself be distracted or led to tend to something else. Wait till your doneWorld Most Amazing Body Painting Part 1
Just as the popularity of hermit crabs as pets is rising all over the world, there is also a rising clamor from animal right groups to discourage the use of painted hermit crab shells. In fact, there is nothing more amazing than to see your crab's shell painted with colors, significant symbols, cartoon characters, football patterns and countless designs aiming to attract the buyers. Though mostly pet owners are responsible adults, there is now a rising demand for children to have these little crabs as a pet or toy. It is in this purpose that the idea of painted hermit crab shells first came out-basically to appeal younger buyers who are mostly children.
What makes the these particular crabs suitable for younger pet owners is the fact that they are easy to maintain. In fact, crabs can be the source of fun and entertainment for children. Many animal groups are campaigning to only buy hermit crabs from responsible breeders and animal rescue organizations. In fact, they are strong in opposing the use of painted hermit crab shells. They encourage the use of unpainted shells so as to protect the crabs.
Along with this, there is also continuing effort on the part of sellers of the painted hermit crab shells to spread awareness that the shells are not part of the crab's body and so there is not a single risk involved. In fact, it is true that when the crabs outgrow the shell, they look for the next larger size. Still many others maintain their position that painted shells are very harmful to the crabs.
1. The first issue raised by the animal groups with respect to using painted hermit crab shells is the fact that the paint will most likely chip off or flake over time. The paint contains toxic substances which can severely damage small animals like these crabs. As time goes by, the crab may suffer from the effects of the paint and will slowly die as a result.
On the other hand, the globs of the paint can also block the opening of the shell. There are countless cases when the crabs are trapped as the paint dries up. What is sad is the fact that when they outgrow their painted shells, their ability to walk is impaired, not to mention that they also develop difficulty reaching out using their grabbers. What is worst is that crabs can develop difficulty eating as a result of using these painted shells.
2. The second issue raised by the animal groups regarding the use of painted hermit crabs shells is that shop owners are perhaps unaware about the hazards of selling such shells. In the end, pet shops will greatly benefits from the huge sales coming from these shells as these items will most likely get attention from the pet owners especially the young ones. That is why there is a campaign to avoid buying these shells at all cost because the crabs have the right to live, just like anyone of usAwesome and Amazing Body Art Part 2
Find Your Perfect Camera
I did some extensive research to find the best camera to buy in five different categories:
- Best Budget Point-and-Shoot
- Best Enthusiast Point-and-Shoot
- Best Entry-Level DSLR
- Best Semi-Pro DSLR
- Best Professional Full Frame DSLR
To pick out what I think the best cameras are in each of these categories, I spent countless hours researching different websites gathering as much information as possible to find the best camera in each category. My research includes looking at customer reviews on Amazon, Adorama and BH Photo Video, reading professional reviews from DPreview, Imaging-Resource and Steve's Digicams, and reading numerous online web forums and discussion boards. Of course I'll add my OWN personal opinion in the mix, also. Oh, a quick note... if there's one thing to remember when shopping for new a camera, it's that megapixels DO NOT MATTER. These big camera companies boast about having the most megapixels, trying to use it as a selling point, when they really don't matter. Multiple resources on the web will say the same. Let's start, shall we?
Best Compact Budget Point-and-Shoot
Canon SD1400IS
Staying under the $200 mark, and from the research I did, this little gem can take one heck of a picture, along with HD video, too! That's right, this tiny guy has 720p (1280 x 720 pixels) High Definition video. Something that is rarely seen in a camera this cheap. From what I read while researching, this camera takes good quality photos for the price. The only drawback on it I found online is a slightly more grainy photo due to the 14MP censor. Other than that, people love it for the ease of use, pocket-able size and good price-to-feature value. Other features include a large 2.7-inch LCD screen, optical image stabilization, a wide 28mm equivalent lens (I love wide angle lenses), HDMI output, and Smart AUTO. I head a lot of good things about smart AUTO. From what Canon says, it will "intelligently select between 22 different predefined settings." Oh, and it comes in HOT PINK! Not that I care... After researching this class of camera for hours, the general consensus is that Canon makes awesome compact budget point-and-shoots. You will be satisfied with any of their budget models, including the SD1400IS. I have yet to find an awful oneSpoiler for body painting

I think it is essential to familiarize yourself with the power of color. It is such an important part of an artists work. Color can set the mood, convey a feeling, and enhance or detract from our focal point.
The Reader's Digest Great Encyclopedic Dictionary (one of my favorite books) defines color thus: A visual attribute of bodies or substances distinct from their spatial characteristics and depending upon the spectral composition of the wavelengths of radiant energy capable of stimulating the retina and its associate neural structures.

All I know is, blue, red, yellow, turquoise, lime green, purple, magenta, gold, crimson, I love them all. I can't wait to open your eyes to the wide world of color!

This is a story that happened quite some time back in a remote rural village in southern India. I shall refrain from naming the village, so as to not hurt the sentiments and feelings of the honest citizens of this village. The story goes like this- On a hot sultry summer evening Ramu, the village cobbler was returning home on a desolate road, which was his usual route everyday, when he was confronted by a strange sight on the side of the road. He thought he saw a snake walking! His usual journey back home from work included a stop at Kalluram's toddy shop to drink his favorite village brew, a potent and lethal combination of fermented coconut toddy mixed with old unsold sleeping pills way past their expiry dates. The sleeping pills were supplied by Marundhuram, the only pharmacist in the village. Ramu wasn't very sure about what he saw and he took in his hand the first thing he saw, a broken twig lying on the side of the road.
Now in this village, there are two types of people, the first type worship snakes, make idols of snakes, paint it with vermillion, offer milk, coconuts, bananas and shave their head or tonsure their tongues in reverence of the snake gods. The second types were those who killed a snake, the first instant they saw one and wouldn't mind eating a cooked one, if it was made spicy enough to go along with their favorite brew. Ramu belonged to the second category. Anyway, coming back to the story, Ramu approached the beast and what he saw on closer examination truly astounded him. The potent alcohol inside Ramu's belly churned his senses at the sight and Ramu thought he was going to faint. Here was Satan's representative itself, Satan had empowered his favorite reptile with a pair of legs. This animal was making its way actually walking on its legs protruding from its belly and was crawling away to safety, inch by inch, to get away from Ramu .This was totally unacceptable to Ramu, here was a repulsive and dangerous animal that was the cause of many deaths in the village, armed with two legs now and Ramu wondered what Satan will do next, give the snake wings to fly away? Ramu stealthily approached the snake to hit it when he realized that the snake was as drunk as he was. It was painstakingly slow in its movements and finding it impossible to get away from the self appointed guardian of the village. The snake finally collapsed on its stomach with both legs flattened on either side of its body, Ramu seized this opportunity and gave three solid blows to the snakes head. He stepped back and surveyed his kill and felt immense pride in his achievement even in his drunken stupor .Now, it was time to tell the villagers about how he has saved the village from an evil beast that was sent by the devil, to wreak havoc on the village and its good inhabitants.
Ramu reached his house in an even more inebriated state, as his elation at the killing of the snake combined with the alcohol pushed his intoxication levels up. He felt a new high now, which he never felt before in his forty five years of a rather boring life. Ramu summoned his wife Buddhudevi to his side and regaled her with his heroic deed of the day. Mrs.Ramu was totally stunned by this behavior, not so by Ramu's story but by the fact that he was actually talking to her today, instead of thrashing her and calling her lewd names. Buddhudevi was so happy that her husband did not beat or abuse her, as was his practice everyday and instead was rambling about how he saved the village from a mysterious beast.
The art of body painting is not a new
In fact we are fond of painting our bodies since prehistoric times. In past we were used to paint our bodies with materials like natural dyes, paints and pigments. In some cases we used ash, and clay, too.
The markings that the people make on their bodies are thought to have magical powers with which one could ward off evil spirits or the tribal enemies. Such was the thinking in past. The painting of bodies was also coined with celebrating of auspicious occasions like New Year or a dance party. Same practice can still observed in the indigenous populations of the countries like New Zealand, Australia, the Pacific Islands, and certain parts of Africa.
In India the women and men are fond of using Henna. It is a colour extracted from a plant of Henna; it is also known as Mehandi. This type of body painting with Henna has been a fashion in India and the Middle East since many years. People paint their hands and legs and other parts of body with Henna during auspicious ceremonies like weddings. The use of henna or Mehandi has become popular in the Western countries, too, since last two decades.
The art of body painting is not a new phenomenon in the countries of South America, too. People here have been using indigenous materials to paint their body and body parts. They use wet charcoal and other materials available in the local surrounding. In some parts of America, a material known as Huito is used to paint the bodies and faces. Huito is a black dye, and it takes weeks to fade awayPopular art body painting women japan
Japan occupies an archipelago that stretches for 2,400 km, isolated by the sea from the rest of the world. Its geographic location, as well as the long periods of its political and cultural seclusion, have fueled the conception of its uniqueness. Yet Japan has largely been influenced by neighboring countries, especially China, which prided itself on an ancient and highly evolved civilization when Japan was still living in the Stone Age. It was only natural that Japan would seek guidance from its neighbor in all matters of technology, religion, economy, and even fashion.
Japanese political structure was also influenced by Chinese traditions, though rather ineffectively. Prior to the 7th century AD, Japan was divided up among a number of clans, presided over by an inept emperor. Then, in 645 AD, the Fujiwara clan rose to power and proceeded to forge Japan's destinyThis new body painting session
Whether you are just interested in re-spraying a small area to cover up some paint chips, or want to treat your car to a custom paint job that will let you enjoy envious stares from every pedestrian you pass, you will need to follow a few basic rules, and have the right tools to hand in order to carry out the work to a high standard.
The first thing to mention about auto paint jobs is that you should always work in a well ventilated area. Paint fumes can include a number of solvents that can leave you feeling light headed and even poison you if you inhale them, so make sure there is free passage of air through your work shop when you are painting. You should also wear a respirator mask during painting or preparation to avoid inhaling any paint and loose dust that you release.
To get the best effects when painting, you also need to make sure that you are able to keep dust to a minimum. You can achieve a good environment by hanging sheets from floor to ceiling in the area where you are working, and wearing overalls. You should also vacuum clean the area where you are painting at the beginning of every session.
When you apply auto body paint, the main thing is to get a good even finish that looks good, and the key to getting a good finish is having a good start. Preparation is everything in paining. Get it right, and you will be able to enjoy a fantastic smooth finish that will last for years and look great, skimp on your preparation, and your finish will look shabby straight away, and then get worse over time.
Before you paint, you need to strip off the old paint job. You can do this with a solvent based paint remover, or do it the hard way by sanding back the panels to bare metal using a sander. Whichever method you choose, you need to make sure that you have a very smooth base. To achieve this, use the finest grade abrasive paper available, and be prepared to put serious time into the job.
Once you are satisfied with your base, you can start applying the primer. Use a HLVP spray gun connected to an air compressor, as this is much more even than an aerosol, and will be much cheaper in the long run. You should use long sweeping strokes in a single direction to get a good base to paint onto. After every coat, allow the paint to dry, and then sand it back to a smooth surface. Then apply the next coat in strokes that go at 90 degrees to the previous layer, as this will produce an even color.
There are two types of auto paint that you can use on a car, cellulose based and Two Pack auto paint. Most painters now use Two Pack because it gives a better finish, and metallic colors are available, whereas cellulose paint can be tricky to deal with, and is best used on classic cars where you are trying to recapture an older style.
As with the primer, you should apply the auto paint in coats, spraying in a single direction, then sanding back to a fine surface to remove any imperfections, before applying the next layer at right angles to the previous one.
In between coats, it is imperative to clean the nozzles on your HVLP spray gun, as otherwise, small flakes of dried paint can be caught up in the spray and cause imperfections that will spoil the final effect.
Once you are satisfied that you have got a good covering and applied enough coats of auto body paint to create an excellent finish, apply one more coat for best effects, allow it to dry, and then sand back for a smooth finish. You should leave the paint to dry completely for 24 hours and then apply a wax polish to the whole body in order to protect your new paint job and give it a shine that will certainly catch the attention of anyone you pass on the road.

Every once in a while a beach girl grabs the world's canvas--one day you'd never heard of her, let alone seen her--the next day she is the cover girl of your dreams, on every newsstand.
One such dream girl is Bar Refaeli.
From Israel, and gorgeous in the extreme, Bar has graced the covers of Cosmopolitan, Maxim and Elle as well as the coveted cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue 2009 and its subsequent books and calendars.
In July, she was bodypainted with the title and wording from the new Stephen King novel for the cover of Esquire.
Having been squired by Leonardo DiCaprio at the time, she was catapulted into bikini hyperspeed. Seen with Leo at Bakers Bay, Bahamas late last month, there are inklings that the two may have reunited again.
Combining an almost feline set of blue eyes and a lion's mane of tawny golden hair, she is curvy and womanly, no stick figure Bar. Her freckled, sunny naturalness is the antidote to near perfect proportions.
At 24 years old, she now commands the ranking and fees of a super model. Her image is known around the world in fashion. She has hosted television. She has even graced an airline side when Southwest Airlines painted an image of her on its 737 Boeing carrier.
In March this year Refaeli received the "World Style Award," presented by the Women's World Awards, for her "natural elegance, sense of style and compassion."
In a controversial move some years ago Bar married (and just as quickly divorced) a family friend to avoid the mandatory military service to her country for all men and women 18 years or older. Sidestepping khaki, Bar relocated to Los Angeles and has never looked back, saying, 'I really wanted to serve (in the IDF), but I don't regret not enlisting, because it paid off big time,' she said. Bright body art painting
Do you want to paint at an event or venue in front of an audience? There are several things to take into consideration and prepare for before you pack up your paintbrush and canvas and step onto your stage, especially if you want to be successful.
For the past 8 years I have been painting full-time. Pop Art, Modern Wall Art, Abstract, Figurative, Surrealism, Stencil Art, Murals, and Bonsai Geisha Art are the styles I specialize in. I began my career in San Francisco and moved to Arizona. When I first got to Arizona I hit the live art scene full force, painting live 5 nights a week at a variety of venues: concerts, night clubs, charity events, private parties, galleries, and festivals. During that time I learned what to do and not to do in order to get the most out my live painting experiences. Branding and marketing my art, selling my art, and enjoying my over-all experience are my three main objectives when I perform live paintings.
As a performing artist, branding and marketing my art is really about branding and marketing myself, because my art is an extension of me. The art speaks for itself, but I quickly learned that I had to express professional conduct in order to be taken seriously and realize success. The following information reveals some of the many ways to show professionalism as a performing artist.
One way is to work with professional promoters who will properly represent you and promote your art. Professional Promoters are willing to put your name and website links their promotional material. When working with other professionals you must be aware that they have expectations of you as well. So be prepared and have your business cards on hand at all times. Also make sure your all of your promotional materials, such as your press kit, websites, Blogs, brochures, or flyers, are in order and up to date, ready for them to review and utilize for promotions.
Another rule of thumb is to check out the venue before you perform there. It's best to visit during the time you will be performing so you can see what the atmosphere will be like. Is there adequate lighting? If you have to bring your own lighting make sure not to use too much or too little. During your pre-visit, confirm with management where your performance area will be located. If the venue is dark during the time you will be painting, make sure there is an electrical outlet nearby. Pick a spot in a location where you can be in front of viewers but not in a heavy traffic zone. Setting up anywhere near the dance floor is not suggested, especially in venues where alcohol is served because people will bump into you all night long. Try to pick a spot where people lounge, like a V.I.P. area or patio. Lastly, in regards to location, be mindful of how much space you will have available and think about things like what size canvas to bring, how big your aisle is, and where you will place your supplies.
When I do my pre-visits I take into account who the patrons will be at my show, then I begin thinking about what I will paint. You must always pre - plan the execution of your piece so that your performance looks effortless. If you are a novice, you might need to practice the painting at home before hand in order to gauge what supplies you will need, how much time it will take you, and/or any other unforeseen obstacles in your creation process.
I learned the hard way that who I am performing with can affect my success. Simply put, if you are working in a space with other performing artists make sure they are quality artists. If you work with unskilled or unprofessional artist people might associate you with them and devalue your service. Once I worked with an artist who left paint and messes all over the venue, although I didn't leave the mess - because that would be unprofessional - I was penalized along with them, none of us were allowed to paint at the venue again.
Professionalism is not only established prior to an event but also during your performance. Be aware that from the moment you step into the venue; you are not just painting, you are performing. So show up early and greet the management. Confirm that your work area is still available; things can change from one day to the next in some cases. When you set up, do so in an orderly fashion, and keep your area uncluttered. While your painting it's not uncommon to have people will approach you. Some will be potential customers and others will be drunks with nothing better to do. Refrain from drinking alcohol if it is available, so you can stay sober-minded and focused on painting and detecting and potential clientsTemporary Arts of Body Painting: Amazing Body Painting
Before my visit to Shetland in the summer of 2008, I stumbled upon the website of artist, Jim Tait. Jim is unusual in that he is a Shetland artist with a website, the Tait Gallery . I was highly impressed by the photo-realistic images Jim manages to capture in his seascapes and arranged a meeting.
Once you meet Jim and view his paintings, his modesty might very well amuse. I had to smile at the guarantee on his website 'If you are dissatisfied with your painting, please let me know within a week of receipt, and return it to me in good condition for a full refund' I never asked if he has ever had any paintings returned.
James Tait was born in Baltasound, Shetland in 1948. He attended art college, but found the process unsuited to his needs - so he left. Jim then attended university to study law, left before completing his studies and a varied subsequent career ensued. Jim now lives in Lerwick, doing what he is so obviously meant to do - marine art. Jim Tait's astrological sign is cancer, the least predictable of all the signs. Cancerians are ruled by the moon and have water as their element, which is obvious in Jim's life and work. He even positions his chair to allow an unrestricted view of the sea from his Shetland home. The three main loves he mentions are: oil painting, sea and ships. The Shetland Islands are framed by the North Atlantic on the west and the North Sea on the right. The coast and views differ wildly and Jim faces the North Sea.
Jim dislikes being asked for his inspiration as he finds the term too lofty. If he has anything similar to inspiration he says, it must be the changing seas and skies of Shetland. Jim's favourite artist is the Belgian Surrealist, Paul Delvaux 1897--1994. There were no similarities, as far as could be seen during our meeting. I later read that Marc Rombaut has written of Delvaux '...he always maintained an intimate and privileged relationship to his childhood, which is the underlying motivation for his work and always manages to surface there. This childhood, existing within him, led him to the poetic dimension in art'; this quote certainly strikes a chord. Delvaux was famous for his female nude compositions, skeletons, and architecture. The absurdity of Delvaux' work seems to be the antithesis of Tait's work. The yin to Tait's yang gritty masculine realism reflected in his work. Jim also admired the work of Cezanne, van der Weyden and Fuseli and definitely admires many local artists and, if they are not inspiration, they were certainly encouragement.

Art is usually divided in the main categories "abstract" or "realistic". But the difference between abstract and realistic painting techniques shouldn't be absolute. As long as abstract is just abstract and realistic just realistic, there's no movement or development. Painting becomes interesting right where abstract and realistic painting meet. Realistic paintings are immersed with abstract aspects like color, composition, forms and texture - and abstract paintings that are really only abstract don't mean anything to a human anymore. Good abstract art always has some (new and creative) referral to our memory of sensory perception.
When you paint realistic, you need some abstract skills to make good paintings. With an eye for color, composition and form, you can analyze your painting, gain some visual distance to it. That enables you to improve your painting. And in abstract painting, you also need to have some realistic painting skills. The best abstract painters were those, who had an old fashioned training in realistic oil painting techniques.
Even when we make photo's, we don't depict reality or nature 'as it really is'. We choose subjects, lighting, a composition. The same thing happens when we make realistic paintings. The sky is blue and trees are green - in our minds - but a closer look shows that things can have all kinds of colors, and that you can play with the mood of picture by choosing specific subjects, props, or a specific time of the day. This goes even more in realistic painting - you build up all the visual elements yourself.
In abstract painting, there is no absolute 'abstractness' either. Even the square of Malevitsch makes some reference to certain crystal shapes, to furniture, to things on earth.
When we make abstract paintings, there are always elements present that refer to reality, or, our experiences as sentient beings. "up" and "down" are general terms, but they have specific meanings - "down"you expect to find a bottom, something solid, to stand on, and "up" you expect air, and some light. That would be a natural situation. It can be the other way around, of course, but then you have quite a different mood (the perspective of someone hanging from a cliff, staring in a void down below - very stressfull)
Every visual element - color, form, proportions - refers to something. Red is a fruit color, a color of passion, and blue is a sky-color, a distance-color. Painting a red sky creates drama. And painting blue food creates an alienated, distant and unnatural look. When you take this knowledge into abstract painting, you can make use your work to communicate meaning.
The main difficulty in this is, that it's hard to perceive this natural state. It's what we are. Trying to experience what you are is like: a fish, trying to become aware of the water he's in. But painting is the best way to learn this way of perception. You only have to relate to your canvas, with your own body as referring material. Subtlety is the key.
This is important because art shouldn't be dead. Concepts like 'realistic' and 'abstract' are concepts that remain dead when taken as given objects, but they come alive when you connect them to each other. This is where reality is actually formed. There is no such thing as a given reality - the objectivity you find in a given situation is material and dead. Which is a lie, because reality is not dead. It's alive. As a living thing, it can only be recognized by a living person, who tells a story, showing what he or she has seen and learned.
Painting becomes interesting where realistic and abstract painting are connected. Then realistic painting goes from: shaping things the way we think they exist to: re-creating reality in the way YOU saw and experienced it. And importing realistic elements in abstract painting enables you to give new meaning to the things you paint. Your subject may be material (a portrait, landscape or such) or immaterial (a mood, concept or feeling). But when you make to yourself this demand of meaning, that is: a referral to reality, that's where equal, valueless colors, strokes and geometrical shapes turn into meaningful colors, forms and gestures. You might even give an outer appearance to things that didn't yet have an outer appearance.
In abstract art painting, it does make a difference if you take a naturalistic subject and paint it in a new way, or if you paint really abstract and try to generate meaning. In the first case, you still work with an 'outer' reality, and when working really abstract, you directly use your body, and the way things feel in your body, as a referral, a medium that tells you what is real. I might be idealistic, and vague, but I believe this is where a new kind of reality is really formed. This kind of objectivity is what gives the real value of art. The body is the key, because we all roughly have the same bodies. We all have hearts, livers and kidneys. Maybe it's time we start to use them
